Miss Viva Las Vegas Application
So the good news (read: incredibly awesome amazing news) is that I'm one of the finalists for Miss Viva Las Vegas Pinup Contest 2018 at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender! This is something I've been dreaming about being a part of for years and I thought it would be fun to blog all about my reasons for entering, what it all means to me and my experiences getting ready for this super fun new chapter. To start off I thought I'd share my application form that I submitted to enter the contest, as a fun little 'get to know me'...
Bio I'm Melanie, AKA Diablo Rose. I work with my awesome sister-boss at Le Keux Vintage Salon as a vintage stylist and Creative Director of our salons and cosmetics range. I love meeting new people and encouraging girls to bring out their inner pinup, both in the salon and online! One of my favourite things is to meet our beautiful customers who love the pin up style but don't know where or how to start, and helping them gain their own confidence and raising them up, whether that's by just wearing red lipstick at first or giving them a full on pin up transformation! I'm a huge believer in finding your own inner confidence and expressing your own personal style, and, as corny as this may sound, I've felt that the more involved I got into the vintage and pin up world, the more comfortable I've felt within myself and what I truly love to do, I have my awkward times and doubts like everyone else but this community is so supportive and amazing and I genuinely feel so lucky to be a part of it! I am completely in love with Vegas, I've celebrating my 21st, represented our cosmetics range, gotten engaged and had some of the best adventures and experiences of my life, all in Las Vegas and, entering Miss Viva Las Vegas has been an absolute dream of mine for years! I've always watched all the wonderful past contests and followed the entries from a far and always longed to be a part of it all and this year I'm finally just doing it! I feel like I'm really at a point where I can represent myself, and the pin up community with grace, fun, pinkspiration, encouragement and respect for all the beautiful lovelies within it!
Which Charities have you worked With? I've worked with the Little Princess Trust, a charity which helps provides little girls and boys with wigs to help with hair loss as a result of chemotherapy or alopecia. A few years ago my image was used on a t shirt sold in the UK without my permission, after single handedly successful claiming copyright infringement and achieving a settlement (which I put towards a dream trip to Las Vegas a few years ago) When the case was all sorted, I thought that rather than hundreds of these t-shirts going to waste and getting destroyed I would create something positive out of the situation I asked that the stock be sent to me and I started to sell them with 100% of the sales going to the Little Princess Trust. I received so much support and help from sharing my story about the copyright infringement that I felt inspired to give something back into the world and turn a strange situation into a really positive one and I I raised over £800! The story was featured in local and national press and TV which helped promote the charity even further. It was a crazy thing to have happened but I'm so proud to have been able to raise such a lot of money and awareness for such an incredible cause!
What hobbies do you have? I would necessarily call any of the things I do 'hobbies' but here's a list of things I really enjoy doing: Planning new adventures, ventures and ideas with my sister, home decorating and makeshift DIY, spray painting things gold or glitter, or glittery gold, cuddling my cat, befriending animals at parties, encouraging women to be awesome self confident babes, watching the Las Vegas sign and Wedding Chapel on Earthcam, collecting Christmas baubles, Disney anything, dream dress shopping on etsy, seeing that glint and excitement in my customers eye when I've finished with her hair and makeup and she really loves what she sees in the mirror, or helping ladies feels confident and happy enough to say 'I look pretty!', taking my hair out and my makeup off at the end of the day, snacking, instagraming, chilling out with my lovely boyfriend, and just generally trying to find the positive side of life!
Which companies have you modelled for? I've modelled for a few reproduction companies such as Glamour Bunny and The Couture Company but I also love collaborating and promoting some amazing independent and female owned brands such as Lady K Loves, Clumsy Kate, Zoe Vine, Bow and Crossbones, Sarahs Doo Wop Dos, Splendette, Pretty Retro, Love Ur Look and more, and of course I've modelled for my own company Le Keux Vintage Salon and Cosmetics.
Previous Pin Up Contest Wins I'm a complete and utter newbie to the world of pin up contests but I have gotten many of beautiful ladies all glammed up to enter pinup and burlesque competitions. It might not be a pin up contest but I did win a competition to be the Face of La Riche Directions Hair dye so I know a lot of mermaid and unicorn haired lovelies who use the range! Why Should You WinThis might be the most cliché pin up contest answer ever, but I feel like just entering Miss Viva Las Vegas is a huge win for me! I've dreamed about entering this contest for so many years, I've written up my application several times and always chickened out for reasons I don't even know, I love being a cheerleader for girls who want to get started on their pin up journey but when it comes to myself I struggle to truly put myself out there and follow my dreams! So this year I've given myself a major pep talk, listened to all the strong, inspiring women I am lucky enough to have in my life and know online and I'm actually clicking send! Las Vegas is my absolute favourite place in the world, I've been visiting since I was 21 and feel so comfortable and in awe every time I visit, so to let myself fantasize of actually being in Las Vegas, standing on the stage I've been dreaming about for such a long time, dressed up all fancy with a beautiful group of ladies who I'm sure have the same dream as me would be an incredible feeling, and would just be a win in itself. So whatever happens from now until April and whether I get into the finals, or even win it will just give me such a sense of pride and accomplishment that I've actually put myself out there, and hopefully it would inspire other girls who struggle even knowing where to start in the pin up world that they can do the same, you just need to give yourself that pep talk!
So there there it is, my application and my fellow finalists! There's still a public vote to choose the remaining 6 ladies for the finals in Vegas so head to http://www.vivalasvegas.net/pin-up-contest/ to cast your vote. I'm so looking forward to sharing so much more about why I entered, why I put it off for so long, how I feel about everything and my outfit and hair inspiration for the contest and Viva in general to stay tuned, and in the meantime, stay lovely!
